If you have curtains on your window, but would still like a little more privacy while the curtains are open, or if you don’t like curtains but would still like to obscure the window then voile curtains may be just the thing for you. Voile is like a traditional net curtains but is delicate and hangs softly giving a more luxurious finish.

Until recently it was only possible to buy voile as a fabric or as ready made panels. These were normally 60″width. In order to cover a window multiple panels would be required (enough to make up a double gather). Now however made to measure voile curtains mean that a voile can be made exactly to your window size in one single piece with no need for joins. The voile can then be hung through channel at the top onto either a net wire, a cafe rod or a small pole.

These voile curtains are an attractive way to finish a window.

Living with high ceilings

Having a home with high ceilings can bring drama, elegance and opulence but can make it difficult to give the house a homely feel. Ceilings are generally painted white although using colour can change the feel of the room and bring the ceiling closer and thus the room feels cozier.

Dramatic curtains such as swags and tails, pelmets and valances work very well in rooms with high ceilings. With the height the curtains can be a ornate and breath taking. Italian stringing is also another attractive finish for a high ceiling home.

In terms of curtain fabric bold, strong colours can also be used to great effect.

Breaking walls down into separate tiers is also a great way to show off the height of your walls whilst creating a less cavernous feel. Very popular with the Edwardian and Victorian two sections of differently patterned wallpaper, separated by a dado rail and topped off with a large corniced top section will add real period charm to a room with high ceilings. The usual method employs striped paper at the bottom with floral wallpaper on top.

Napoli is a stunning metallic curtain fabric with a jacquard style background and metallic floral pattern. It is available in charcoal, red, cream and also black and gold.

Retro curtains are the new current curtains

The new ranges of ready made curtains arriving ready for the start of the winter season, have a real retro feel but most have a taken a retro theme and been given a twist. The traditional damask curtain has now become a silky taffeta with the damask pattern in flock rather than the self pattern style we are all familiar with. The traditional polka dot are now back but in fuchsia and limes. The old school linens are still available but many have bold printed black patterns setting out to make a real statement in your home.
The most striking change in the new incoming ranges are the many cotton printed fabrics that are now available. Floral and abstract prints have made a real come back. For a long time prints have been out of favour but they are back in a big way.
Beautiful small floral prints and large striking patterns seem to be the order of the day.
